Troop #9 Magazine

For: August 1999

Welcoming

Welcome to the Troop #9 Magazine! I’m Brian and I will be writing this magazine, if you have any comments or suggestions then call, snail mail, or e-mail me. This magazine is becoming annual and you will receive one every month hopefully. That is if all the information needed is given to me so that I can publish it (hint hint Jackie). Well, I think I will let you start browsing and reading. Oh! One more thing…this will also be on the internet at https://members.tripod.com/brianmj/troopmag.html for anyone in the troop who wants to read it and if you have an e-mail address then it will eventually be sent that way because it saves time and money. Thanks and I hope you like the changes.

Recent events

As all of you know we recently had a Court of Honor and we would like to congratulate everyone who received awards:

Derrick Arnold went through the Dan Beard Program at Camp Buck Toms and as I understand got a lot of requirements for Ranks signed off and also received his Totin’ Chip and Firem’n Chit.

Josh Burke: Second Class, American Labor MB, and First Aid MB

Cory Carmely: Second Class

Travis Devine: American Labor MB, First Aid MB, and Rifle Shooting MB

Brys Hensley: Second Class, American Labor MB, Camping MB, Citizenship in the Community MB, Pioneering MB, Rifle Shooting MB, and Sports MB

Chase Hensley: American Labor MB, Rifle Shooting MB

Brian Joines: Gold Palm, Rowing MB, Shotgun Shooting MB, Soil & Water Conservation MB, and Scholarship MB

Cody Miller: American Labor MB, Citizenship in the Community MB, and Rowing MB

Kyle Powell: American Labor MB, Citizenship in the Community MB, and First Aid MB

Justin Solomon: Second Class, American Labor MB, Pioneering MB, Rifle Shooting MB, Sports MB, and Weather MB

Nick Starnes and Lucy Hensely went through the Cope Program at camp. They had a great time there swinging on vines and Nick seems to be good at banging his head on the zip line break. Ask them about it, I’m sure they’ll tell you that they had fun.

Joseph Sturgill: Second Class, American Labor MB, Citizenship in the Community MB, and Rifle Shooting MB

Andrew Torbett: Second Class, American Labor MB, Rifle Shooting MB, Shotgun Shooting MB, and Woodcarving MB

Another recent event was Camp Buck Toms. I think everyone had a good time at camp and I think Chase is still having a good time there. Actually I heard that Chase’s last week of working at camp is next week. I also know from a trusted source that Justin and Joseph both beat Jackie’s rifle shooting scores. Congratulations, that same source says that you all cheated a little by getting real close to the target but I don’t know if I would believe that or not. I was wondering if Travis Devine ever beat Jackie’s score (Jackie held me at gunpoint to put that in)?

The most recent thing the troop did was to go to Ogles Water Park and spend the day. From what I hear, it was a great trip and it did sprinkle a bit but there weren’t any lines so it made it worth while. Afterward they went to Golden Corral and I heard Justin had a little problem finding his chair when he sat down.

Current events

John Solomon is currently teaching Sports merit badge and is thinking about teaching Physical Fitness, "how ‘bout it John?"

Upcoming events

I am planning on teaching Shotgun Shooting merit badge to whoever is interested and the enclosed letter will tell you more about that.

Sick list

Joseph Sturgill is sick with Pneumonia and I think that we all need to remember him. Joseph, speaking for the whole troop, GET WELL SOON.

I think all of us can think of someone else to pray for or do something for, don’t you.
